Sentence Master: For Windows NT, 2000 & XP: When I go to launch the program, I get an error that reads something like, "Unable to copy the driver file C:\WINDOWS\dirdib.drv to your Windows directory. Your disk may be full." How can I fix this?Please click here for a full explanation and fix. The installer says that the Sentence Master is not compatible with NT. This is partly true. The 32-bit version of the Sentence Master will not run on Windows NT because of it's reliance on 16-bit dll's. However, the included 16-bit version is compatible with NT. It is the same as the 32-bit version, but uses a 16-bit animation engine. Continue installing the Sentence Master. When installation is complete, right click on the installed shortcut and choose properties. The target line should look something like this: C:\Laureate\SMASTER2\SMASTR32.EXE Change 32 to 16 so that it looks like this: C:\Laureate\SMASTER2\SMASTR16.EXEWhen I launch The Sentence Master, I get a blank box with no message. The Sentence Master may have trouble starting up if no printer has ever been selected. Even if no printer is attached to the computer create a new printer in Printers and Faxes in the Windows Start Menu. Some version of Windows have this setting under Settings in the Start Menu. Getting a "script error-handler not defined". This error is occurring because the Smastr32.exe program is running. NT requires, the Smastr16.exe file. Change the path of the shortcut so that it launches the Smastr16.exe program instead. Go to Start | Programs | Laureate. Now, instead of running The Sentence Master, use the right mouse button to click on the Sentence Master. A pop-up menu appears. Left click on properties. The target line should look something like this: C:\Laureate\SMASTER2\SMASTR32.EXE Change this line so that it reads: C:\Laureate\SMASTER2\SMASTR16.EXE For Windows 95: - From the "Start" menu, choose "Settings" and then choose "Control Panel".- Open "Display" and click on the "Settings" tab. - From the color palette drop-box, choose "256 colors". - Click OK, and then choose to restart your computer. For Windows 3.x: - Open the "Main" program group.- Double-click on "Windows Setup". - From the "Options" menu, choose "Change System Settings..." - From the Display drop-box, choose a mode with 256 colors. - You may be prompted for a Windows install disk to retrieve the correct video driver. - Restart your computer. I'm not getting any sound at all. (Windows 3.x only) Here are some things to check:- Make sure you are running DOS 6.22 or later - type VER at the DOS prompt. Run MEMMAKER from the DOS prompt to get the maximum conventional amount of lower memory free. This should be at least 545K - Make sure you are using a 4MB permanent swap file. This file is vital to the projector - It could be a driver conflict. Once the system is configured as stated above, minimize what is being loaded in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files to see if that will clear up the problem. - Make sure you are not using the mWave sound card packaged with EduQuest computers. Reason: old drivers and no update. - If Compaq and no sound, then update drivers or set "MixServiceMode=0" in START.INI file. I cannot use the mouse as a scanning device. In The Sentence Master, the mouse can be used as a pointing device in conjunction with the scanning interface. For this reason, a mouse click cannot be used as a switch selection. Instead, configure your switch to detect the space bar or return key.The Window washer wipes the window, but I can't see the word "BUS". Your computer display may not be set to 256 colors or more.Note: The network version of Sentence Master must be set for read only for the program to properly run on the server. Also, the directory, in which the program is installed, must be read only. There are some network systems that have a shared attribute that must be set. If all else fails, flag all of the files as read only and set the attributes to shared. I get an error, when trying to launch one of my Laureate Programs, that reads; "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application." What can I do to fix this? Specifically this is an issue with Windows. Your SYSTEM32 folder is missing the AUTOEXEC.NT file or it is damaged. Microsoft has a technote on resolving this issue. http://support.microsoft.com/Q324767 I still get the error that reads; "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. Even though I replaced the Autoexec.nt file.
